Angel Road Bridge Replacement Over Otego Creek

Town of Laurens, County of Otsego, New York

This local municipal project provided design and construction phase services for replacement of Angel Road Bridge over Otego Creek, BIN 2227600, located in the Town of Laurens.

This project has been necessitated by the structural, foundation and roadway damage incurred by the existing bridge during flooding in June 2006. The bridge suffered significant damage on the south approach roadway, creating a big gap (approximately 20’ in length) behind the south abutment which has tipped forward. Flooding caused erosion of the south embankment, and the north stone abutment was completely washed away as well as the timber deck. Pending replacement, the existing structure was closed to traffic.

Shumaker Consulting Engineering & Land Surveying, P.C.(SCE) is providing construction support services, including review and approval of shop drawings and construction material specifications; interpretation and clarification of contract plans and specifications; and response to unanticipated or changed field conditions.

The scope of design services included preliminary and final design services. Preliminary design involved the gathering of site data, survey and mapping, subsurface investigation, hydraulic analysis, preliminary plans, preliminary cost estimates, and environmental permits. Final design tasks included: preparing detailed plans (with design computations), preparation of bid documents, and assistance to the Town during bidding.
